About

LM_photo_1_vsmLeslie McCormick, MA, LPC, R-DMT, received her masters of somatic counseling psychology from Naropa University in 2006. Her background in meditation and dance led her to the field of somatic psychotherapy. Her training in and practice of meditation provides the foundation for her present-moment, experiential approach to therapy and her focus on health vs. pathology. Leslie’s approach is highly relational and she supports clients’ embodied development through a variety of experiential means. Leslie integrates her training in evidence-based modalities such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) and the Neuro-sequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) into her practice. Clients’ self-defined goals form the core of the therapeutic relationship and work. Leslie has maintained a private practice in Boulder for over ten years.

Leslie’s clinical experience includes provision of therapeutic services for adults in community mental health settings; substance abuse education and treatment; facilitation of in-patient dance/movement therapy groups; development and facilitation of mindfulness- and DBT-skills parent groups; provision of dance/movement therapy and play therapy with children in residential treatment, day treatment, and out-patient settings; and work with LGBTIQQA youth through Boulder County’s OASOS program.

Leslie’s intensive, post-graduate training includes:

  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for the treatment of trauma through the Sensorimotor Psychotherapy Institute (9-months)
  • the Neuro-Sequential Model of Therapeutics (NMT) through the Child Trauma Academy with child trauma expert, Dr. Bruce Perry (4 years)
  • Body-Mind Psychotherapy with founder, Susan Aposhyan (2 years)
